BEETHOVEN & BRAHMS | CONCERT FOUR

Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 8 pm

Guelph Youth Music Centre Recital Hall

The Afiara String Quartet

The Afiara String Quartet is a new ensemble based in San Francisco, but with a local connection—the violist is Guelph-native David Samuel, who went on to teach and perform at the San Francisco Conservatory after graduating from Julliard. The all-Canadian Afiara String Quartet is the Morrison Fellowship Quartet-in-Residence at the International Center for the Arts, San Francisco State University, where they serve as teaching assistants to their mentors, the world-renowned Alexander String Quartet. They have performed at Carnegie Hall in the “Kronos: Signature Works” series, taught as Faculty Ensemble in Residence at Chamber Music of the Rockies, and, in their New York debut, were presented by Chamber Music America in a Kronos-curated concert. They have been heard on KALW, CBC Radio 2, and were featured in the CBC’s “Road to Banff” documentary, featured on the CBC web site, as the quartet prepared for and competed in the 2007 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The Afiara’s performance will be a delight!
