Crazy Week 2005
Students had a chance to work with other teachers during Crazy Week. During that week, students attended master classes. Several faculty members attend each master class and taught other teacher's students. Many people brought snacks and the atmosphere was very festive. We all had a great time.
Special Guests at the River Run Centre
Charlotte Crane and Emily Kistemaker, two six year old students from the Suzuki String School of Guelph made a special guest appearance on the Pavlo concert on Friday, November 12, 2004 at the River Run Centre in Guelph. Pavlo is a Mediteranian guitarist and composer from Toronto who performs with of band of four other musicians. The girls performed O Come Little Children as a duet for a full house which requested an encore. Their encore was Suzuki's Allegro. See our November newsletter to read all about how Charlotte and Emily met Pavlo and his band. A big thank you to Pavlo, his band and their manager, Bernie Fiedler, for making these two young girls feel so special. To find out more about Pavlo (seen here with the girls in the River Run dressing room), look up his web site at www.pavlo.net.
Halloween 2004 Guess Who!
Minneapolis 2004
The SSSG Senior String Students performed in an International Ensemble Concert at the Suzuki Association of the Americas 11th Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota in May 2004. The 15 students were one of only four groups who were selected out of 16 applicants from all over the Americas. The conference is a biannual event held in the USA and attracts thousands of teachers, parents and students.
The Guelph students were privileged to represent Canada at this international event and perform for a highly-educated audience of musicians and music educators. They had the opportunity to meet other students who are engaged in the pursuit of music at a very high level of accomplishment and to build friendships with them across borders. They observed master classes in violin, viola, cello and chamber music with some of the finest teachers in North America today. They attended performances by renowned American musicians as well as a very special group of Suzuki students from Clevelands inner city.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the successful fundraising efforts to help pay for this fabulous trip!
Lia Falzon videotaped our gang in Minneapolis, and Ken Gee produced a DVD of the trip. You can get a copy of the DVD by contacting Rick Avery.
