Enrichment

Orchestra
with Kirsten Marshall (NY), Robert Richardson Jr. (MB), and Dragan Djerkic (QC)

Kirsten, Rob and Dragan will lead our orchestras in a varied selection of music on Friday’s Final Orchestral Concert. Both teachers have wide experience working with Suzuki orchestras.

Generously sponsored by William Ware, Violins.

Tutti Concert

All string students can perform the pieces that are part of the Suzuki literature together as a group, accompanied by the faculty orchestra—an unrehearsed, thrilling experience!

Play-ins

More fun, fast and informal chances to perform with others and work with different teachers, and you never know what to expect! Pianists also find ways and means to get together.

Reading Ensembles

This is an excellent pre-orchestra experience for beginning and intermediate readers. Violin and cello students will improve their reading skills, work on playing in harmony (more than one voice at a time), and learn about orchestral conventions and etiquette. Piano students will study two duets.

Cello Choir
with David Evenchick (ON)

Cellos “sing” together again under David’s direction. The music is fantastic, and the “choir” will perform late in the week. Suzuki cellists Bk. 4 and beyond will receive music to prepare in advance. (Cello Choir is included in the Intermediate & Senior Cello Programs.)

Percussion
with Anne Marie Borth (ON) & Arun Pal (ON)

Using drums, xylophones, and many other exciting percussion instruments provided by WLU, pianists and harpists will improve their rhythmic reading and improvisational skills. Lots of toys, lots of fun!

Music & Movement
with Karen Haack (ON) & Ewa Krzatala (ON)

Inspired by the teachings of Orff and Dalcroze, this pre-reading course explores concepts of rhythm, pulse and pitch. As well as having great fun, students will work on the skills necessary to become better readers and good musicians.

Solo Recitals

Every student at the Institute has the opportunity to perform in a solo recital. If you’re not a pianist or harpist, a professional piano accompanist and one free rehearsal is supplied (if required).

Parent Discussions

Parents—it’s time for a little refuelling. SOSI offers free parent lectures with some of the most prominent Suzuki teachers in the world. These lectures are both down to earth and inspirational. They are a great way to get new ideas or to reaffirm your commitment to the journey. We provide entertainment for your children in another room so you can enjoy the lecture.
