Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society update
KWCMS: December 10, 2000
ALEXANDER TSEYLYAKOV has had to cancel his concert, with apologies for the
very short notice - his mother, in Baku, Russia, suddenly took very ill and
died yesterday. We do not at present know when this can be rescheduled.
Note: we remind you that reservations or adovance ticket purchase for the
Beethoven's Birthday concert on Sunday, Dec. 17th, at 2:00 p.m. would be a
good idea. By e-mail reply, for instance, would be a good idea!
December 17 sun AT 2:00 BEETHOVEN'S BIRTHDAY MATINEE, with lots of great musicians,
at the Music Room this year (and a day late, but close enough!). The
all-Beethoven program has a few unusual items and a couple of favorites:
JAMIE PARKER is the pianist in all this. Violin Sonata No. 4, op. 23 (Jerzy
KAPLANEK (of Penderecki Quartet); Horn sonata, Op. 17 (Nina BRICKMAN, of
CCE/KWS); Trio for two oboes and English horn, op 87 (Richard DORSEY,
Principal oboe, TSO; James MASON, Principal oboe, CCE and KWS; Faith
LEVENE, English horn (of KWS); Trio for clarinet, cello, piano: Ross
EDWARDS, clarinet; Chris SHARPE, cello); Quintet for Piano and Winds
(Parker, Mason, Edwards, Brickman, & Cedric COLEMAN, Principal bassoon,
CCE/KWS). Price A+ [$25; $sr $20; st $15]
The Quintet is an established Beethoven Great Work, and it is a pleasure to
have such a fine group of musicians playing it. The Trio, which we had last
summer by another threesome, is one of Beethoven's most charming works, and
is performed wherever there are fine clarinetists (who can find someo
friends!) to play it; the trio for oboes and English horn is an amazing
virtuoso work, just the thing for such a superb threesome as ours; this
violin sonata occupies a lonely niche between the sets of three of Op. 12
and Op. 30; it's in a (A Minor) and has some lovely novel sounds, which are
explored to perfection by our team; and the horn sonata is one of the
glories of that literature.
NOTE TO ALL: We will throw a modest party for Ludwig after this afternoon
performance. All who attend the concert are welcome; we ask you to bring a
small platter of somethings for the party - the Narvesons will supply
liquids, alcoholic and otherwise. ALSO we URGE RESERVATION or advance
purchase, this event is already rather well subscribed, with 9 days to
go....
note re winter concerts: To avoid info overload, we'll put out a separate
post with complete winter/spring concerts. Programs are coming in, and
we'll supply as much information as we can. Look foro the posting next week
some time..
